Contemplating the Void

Curators Nancy Spector and David van der Leer of the Guggenheim Museum asked nearly 200 artists and architects to create something that would fill the void in Frank Lloyd Wright's famous rotunda.

Some of the results look pretty interesting...

More photos and info here and here

I haven't been to the guggenheim in awhile, but that exhibit combined with Tino Sehgal's “relational” works that call for the interior walls of the museum to be completely bare sounds pretty rad as well.

Gabriel Orozco

"I want to disappoint the expectations of the one who waits to be amazed"

“I concentrate on reality in terms of what is happening to me and I try to revolutionize that and try to rethink it and transform it. I try to transform reality with it’s own rules, with the things I found there.”

Gabriel Orozco's retrospective is currently on view at MoMA through March 1st.

Projects 90: Song Dong

There is a new installation at MoMA that is really fascinating, definitely check it out if you are in nyc!

“Chinese artist Song Dong organized and displayed every item from his mother's home, including numerous television sets, toothpaste tubes, plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, and shoes. Song Dong's mother accumulated these items over fifty years — it was a common practice during in China when people lived the concept "waste not" (wu jin qi yong).”

Matrin Kippenberger Retrospective at MoMA

Go see it!

I saw the members preview of it last week, but now it is open to the public.
I wasn't overly familiar with his work before, but it was definitely a show worth seeing.
Kind of amazing that such diverse work was all made by the same person.

this installation part by him is separate from the exhibit on the top floor.
